Splitgate is a first-person shooter that will make you feel right at home if you’re a fan of games like Quake, Unreal Tournament, and Portal.

If you love all of them, this title offers a fascinating mix of elements that will keep you glued to your screen for many hours.

Most shooters are straightforward and leave very little room for unknown variables or luck.

Splitgate takes a different approach and dares you to jump into a portal, not knowing exactly what you’ll find on the other side. It might prove to be a great escape route or a trap.

If you’re new to Splitgate, this guide will teach you everything you need to know about the Splitgate ranks and how to climb them faster.

Ranks in Splitgate

Because Splitgate is a competitive game, its developer, 1047 Games, has decided to utilize a ranking system to distinguish the best players from the novices.

This allows new players to avoid the feeling that they cannot win a single match.

When you have just one hour of experience in a shooter and get asked to compete against someone who has more than one thousand, it is hard not to feel overwhelmed and hopeless.

But if you get to compete against players of similar skill, it suddenly becomes a lot easier to win, and the game can be really fun.

Splitgate ranks are extremely diverse. This game was clearly designed for a large player base and there are lots of different ranks to climb to reach the Champion level. The complete list can be found below:

  • No Rank – Unranked
  • Brass (0 – 999)
  • Bronze I (1,000 – 1,099)
  • Bronze II (1,100 – 1,199)
  • Bronze III (1,200 – 1,299)
  • Bronze IV (1,300 – 1,399)
  • Bronze V (1,400 – 1,499)

  • Diamond II (3,100 – 3,199)
  • Diamond III (3,200 – 3,299)
  • Diamond IV (3,300 – 3,399)
  • Diamond V (3,400 – 3,499)
  • Master I (3,500 – 3,599)
  • Master II (3,600 – 3,699)
  • Master III (3,700 – 3,799)
  • Master IV (3,800 – 3,899)
  • Master V (3,900 – 3,999)
  • Champion (4,000 – 5,000)

The Splitgate ranking system is very intuitive. To climb the Splitgate rank levels, you need to win matches against players of similar strength.

Each ranked mode has its own Elo score. The higher a player’s Elo, the higher their rank is going to be. Losing matches makes you lose Elo, so you’ll want to avoid that as much as possible.

Key Features of Splitgate

Splitgate feels like a spiritual successor to Portal and utilizes many of its mechanics. However, it also adds a lot of gunplay into the mix and makes the FPS experience quite compelling.

If you want to compete with your friends, you are encouraged to do so. The game is played in two primary modes: Takedown and 4v4.

These modes offer the possibility to play ranked matches, which is why they’re the most popular.

This is a 3v3 game mode in which the goal is to kill the entire enemy team without offering its players the chance to respawn.

This happens quite fast, so you’ll need to be even faster. Or, if you’re the one in danger of losing the match, you need to find a way to stay alive long enough for your teammates to respawn.

Splitgate offers a very unique playstyle and forces teams to cooperate in creative ways to end the game or survive their opponents’ attempt to do this.

Whenever a player respawns, he gets a pistol and a carabine by default. Any other weapon upgrade needs to be earned.

The match format is best-of-seven, which means that the winning team is the one who gets the first to 4 round victories.

In the 4v4 ranked mode, players can compete in 3 different styles:

  • Domination
  • King of the Hill
  • Team Deathmatch

The Domination game mode is all about controlling key points on the map. There are 3 Hills in total and the players fight to gain control over them.

When you have control of a Hill, you get 1 point per second. Whoever gets to 600 points first, wins the match.

The King of the Hill game mode revolves around controlling a Hill whose map location changes during the match.

Each second of control is worth 1 point. The winner is the one with the highest number of points at the end of the match.

Team Deathmatch is all about killing players from the enemy team. You get 1 point per kill. The team that scores 50 points first wins the match.

How to Climb The Splitgate Ranks Faster

To become a better Splitgate player, you need to work on several aspects of your game:

Splitgate offers players a wide array of guns and tools that they can use to win matches. Learning how each of these guns works takes time.

You should be comfortable shooting with every type of gun in the game because you don’t always get to use your favorite weapons.

Whether it’s a Battle Rifle, a Shotgun, or an SMG, you need to understand what its strengths and weaknesses are.

Otherwise, you’ll engage in battles that you cannot win. For example, using a Shotgun at long range is a bad idea. This gun is not designed to work that way.

One of the key elements of the game is the portal. You can open portals and your enemies can do the same. This mechanism allows you to create escape rounds and ways of surprising your opponents. But it may also get you killed.

Your enemies can see where you’ve placed your portals and can set up traps for you because of this. Understanding the weaknesses of your portals will make you a better portal user.

Just like in other FPS games, such as CS:GO or Valorant, communication plays a big role when trying to win as part of a team.

If you don’t communicate properly with your teammates, the odds of success are low.

Furthermore, if you don’t know how to stay calm when everything goes wrong, your ability to make a comeback will be diminished.

For a novice, it may appear that yelling at your teammates is a good idea. But it’s actually counter-productive and will make you lose a lot of matches.

On top of that, it is not a sustainable way of communicating with others. People want to have a good time when they’re playing video games. If you’re always toxic, they’ll just start to avoid you.

In many esports, at the professional level, teams disband because the players don’t relate well to each other. When everyone is angry at everyone else, cooperation is poor and that has a huge impact on results.

Other Things That You Can Do

If you’re new to Splitgate and want to climb the ranks faster, try to play Portal for a while. That game is a perfect simulator for training your ability to use portals properly.

It can be very difficult for a new player to fully utilize this element of the game and not do it in a counterproductive manner.

But if you train your portal skills in Portal 1 or 2, it will be much easier to grasp the concept and the techniques that can be used to gain an advantage when employing portals as part of your strategy.

Of course, you could also opt to simply not use portals. But that’s the equivalent of not using grenades in CS:GO.

When a game puts a lot of emphasis on an element, you are clearly supposed to use and master it to succeed. If you don’t, those who do will have a big advantage over you.

When you want to improve your skills, one last thing that you can do is take notes and analyze your own games.

It’s often hard to tell what you could have done better without carefully analyzing what happened during the match and how your opponents managed to defeat you.

Only by watching the game not only from your perspective but also from their perspective will you get the deep insights required to figure out what you did wrong and what you could have done better.

Taking notes allows you to improve your understanding of the game over time.

If you slowly build your own theory of how the game should be played for optimal results, you are much likelier to end up getting such results than if you do everything at random, without really contemplating the possibilities.
